About Me
Jennifer Ostrega is the Founder and CEO of Kind Roots Co. Since 2009, her company has established itself as an after-school and summer enrichment program in Maplewood, NJ and now has roots in the NJ Public Schools where Jennifer is an “English as a Second Language” teacher of Haitian Creole and Spanish immigrant children.
She became one of the founding Promise Leaders for Sandy Hook Promise's grassroots outreach initiative and helped launch social and emotional learning supports in the South Orange / Maplewood School District. In 2019, she partnered with the Maplewood Library Children's room, and directed and produced a play she wrote performed by her own Kind Hearts Theater. Her PBS special, Punctuation Power aired across the country on NJ Learning Live in 2020. In 2021, she was selected by NJ TESOL to present her kinesthetic approach to elementary math with "Math Detectives on Flipgrid," and in 2022, Jennifer was nominated by her school for the NJ Excellence in Elementary Education Awards in Education for the State of NJ.
Jennifer is a graduate of Rutgers College, holds an M.A. from Hunter College, and is a Supervision Candidate at St.Elizabeth University. She is currently an adjunct at Kean University.
It is my mission to diffuse students obstacles by creating a comfortable learning environment. Being a good listener and attuned to the individual needs of the language learner is the way that together, we, both teacher and student, can realize their goals.
